Research Specialist
The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology in The Department of Biology at NYU seeks applicants for a research specialist to join the laboratory of David Gresham whose research focuses on understanding the molecular processes that govern response to environmental variation in single eukaryotic cells. Work will involve assisting with general lab support duties and projects employing molecular biology, microbiology, microscopy, and genomic techniques to study transcriptional regulation and genetic interactions in S. cerevisiae.
Specific duties include:
-Maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and products as well as making and autoclaving solutions and stocks as needed.
-Ordering and restocking lab supplies.
-Preparing S. cerevisiae and E. coli cultures for various experiments.
-Performing molecular biology procedures including PCR and nucleic acid extraction.
-Performing microarray and next generation sequencing methods
-Culturing S. cerevisiae under diverse conditions including the use of chemostats (continuous culture)
-Analyzing S. cerevisiae using genetic techniques including tetrad dissection and random spore analysis.
List of all essential requirements/skills
-BA or BS in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or related field.
-At least one year lab research experience in either molecular biology or microbiology
-Good computer skills
-Ability to maintain a meticulous daily laboratory notebook
-Ability to work with well with others
Non-essential (preferred) functions
-Previous experience with yeast
-Experience with programming languages such as Perl and R
